The project included comprehensive modelling using two interconnected models: one analyzed international passenger traffic and mode choice, while the other focused on Hungarian conditions, using the outputs of the first model as input data. The international model determined the optimal alignment between the V4 (Visegrád Group) capitals and proposed a timetable for international trains. The domestic model examined which domestic InterCity and InterRegio services could utilize the HSR and assessed the impact on suburban, regional, and freight services. This was important, as traffic diverted to the new high-speed rail would free up capacity on the currently congested conventional rail lines.
