“In previous decades or even centuries, man has often subordinated his environmental values to his economic aspirations. Our land is becoming less and less clean and liveable which is why it is now imperative to develop and implement programmes that are designed to restore our natural environment and aspire to introduce new, sustainable approaches, practices that protect our environment.

Kaposvár has decided to join forces with the municipalities along the Kapos river in protecting the environment. In recent months, we have restored, remediated 28 closed landfills to prevent hazardous substances from penetrating to the soil and then into waters.

Now, we are ready to start the implementation of the HUF 4 billion waste management programme, which will include the construction of a state-of-the-art waste processing centre. In the future we will dispose of the waste produced in our towns with greater efficiency and with the priority of recycling in mind. We are doing this not only for the protection of our environment but also for economic reasons: in the long term the household spending on waste disposal will reduce as a benefit of the investment.

Kaposvár’s strategic objective is to ensure the lowest prices for public services while maintaining the highest possible service standards. I believe from the perspective of the owner, that it is not only an opportunity, but also a duty to feel responsible for those who consider this city to be their home.
