Waste Management Programmes in Budapest
As a result of three waste management projects prepared and implemented by the capital city with funding under the EEOP a state-of-the-art waste management system compliant with EU directives has been established in Budapest. Preparation of the projects was launched in 2011 and they were implemented between 2013 and 2015. Establishment of the waste management system is being implemented as a phased project extending to the 2014-2020 programming period.
The projects included the introduction of kerbside selective waste collection service for the entire capital which included procurement of collection vehicles and vessels. Also, the environmentally friendly technology development of the waste management system was launched with the deployment of new facilities and the acquisition of equipment (e.g. reclamation, logistics centre, grinder, metal separator, awareness raising centres, landfill gas recovery facility).
The preparatory tasks for the project with a total cost of over HUF 10 billion were carried out by TRENECON Ltd., producing the detailed feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis and the funding application.
